Sure, other things may be more powerful with the right build, but HOIL is good on every build with literally no effort on your part. I genuinely can't think of any other exotic that approaches that level of usability. Its so usable, so perfect, so seamless, that its become a no thought pure upgrade to any titan build you can think of. The problem is that I slap that shit on damn near every build I make. Look, I love HOIL, I slap that shit on damn near every build I make. So, what's the upshot? Why write all of this? Hallowfire heart could replace your super with a version of radiance from Destiny 1, where your abilities are practically instantly recharged fo a short time. Second chance, for example, could massively buff shield damage against targets who have already been struck by the shield. Personally, I just think the damage buff from HOIL makes no sense, and it should probably be moved to the other ability enhancement exotics. Sure, you get two grenades, but what about one, better, grenade that happens almost twice as often? Sure, your melee comes back instantly, but what about your grenade and class ability? Sure, you have two shields, how about you eat shit? This isn't even a problem limited to Hallowfire: Second Chance, Armarmentarium, and arguably even skullfort are all just worse ability spam exotics in a way that makes them kinda pointless. My problem is that HOIL, due to its lack of restrictions, should be less powerful than the things that tie you down. This isn't me arguing for HOIL to be nerfed, at least not directly. Its not that Hallowfire is bad, its that it is so entirely outclassed by HOIL that you would never consider using it. HOIL has no subclass restrictions, does not require you to hoard your super, yet provides BETTER benefits than Hallowfire! The thing with more restrictions (subclass, holding super) should be the thing with a higher gain, to make the tradeoff worth it. If we go back to the train analogy, the comparison between these two exotics is like comparing a 120 mph train with no stops to a fat kid on a bike pulling you on a sled. While exact numbers on HOIL are suprisingly hard to find, at max stacks, it seems to slightly outpace Hallowfire Heart with your super charged while also providing a massive damage boost to your abilities. Heart of Inmost Light(HOIL), on the other hand, empowers and increases the recharge rate of all of your other abilities any time you use an ability on any subclass. Hallowfire Heart provides a 75% boost to your ability recharge rate, which increases to 350% if you have a charged super only while using a solar subclass. Despite differences in speed, the two options are equal. In effect, this means that you are going to get to your destination at basically the same time with either option. Both trains have stops, but the faster one has twice the number of stops that the slower one has. You have two options, One train that moves 30 mph and another train that moves 60 mph. Imagine that you need to commute from where you live to another place far away. So let me begin this discussion on balance with an allegory, that we can then bring back to Destiny. So "balance" is often talked about, but rarely disected. I'll have to type the rest of this quickly, before the lynch mob that formed from reading the title of this post gets me.
